My Heart Aches

You might be wondering why I have not addressed the earthquake tragedy that is going on in China right now.  It is not from lack of feeling – it is from feeling too much.  I have watched the images on the news and on the Internet with horror and sorrow.  Here in America we have no idea, even with our recent natural disasters in the last few years, the level of devastation that China is facing right now.  There is not just damage, the entire area has been reduced to rubble.

Here is a blog devoted to pictures of the tragedy.  http://512quake.blogspot.com/

There is another layer to this tragedy as well.  China, as many already know, has a one child policy.  This earthquake occurred during school hours, and entire schools just collapsed, trapping and killing an entire generation for this area of the country. There are also many small children who are left without parents.  I have read of one orphanage that just had 24 children admitted since the earthquake – that is just one of the many orphanages that dot the Chinese countryside.

There have been demonstrations and riots about the human rights issues in China. I will state on record that there are things about China’s governmental policy that I don’t agree with.  There are things I don’t like about America’s, either.  But putting governmental policies aside,  a country is filled with people. People who are doing nothing more than trying to live their lives, love their family and make ends meet.  These are the people who have been caught up in this horrible situation.  Please pray for all those involved – the people hurt and injured, the ones who have lost family members, the rescuers who will live with these images for the rest of their lives.
